5/7/2020   National Day of Prayer Virtual Interfaith Gathering

The National Day of Prayer here in America is designated as the first Thursday in May. Like most events amid the pandemic, physical gathering has become an issue. To deal with this, Arcadia Interfaith Action Group organized a digital platform for everyone to meet. Eight faith based communities from Christianity, Catholicism, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Baha'ism, and Sikhism joined in the gathering.

The topic at this meeting was "We are ONE with many voices," sharing the message of “Loving All” in each respective prayer. Venerable Abbot Hui Dong of FGS Hsi Lai Temple recorded a short clip in the Main Shrine of the temple, delivering "A Prayer to Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva for Safety from the Novel Coronavirus Outbreak" composed by our Venerable Master Hsing Yun. Representing the Buddhist community with this prayer, Venerable Abbot also prayed that society may quickly be free of the virus and that all may be blessed with peace, safety, and auspiciousness.

With diverse religious backgrounds and prayers, this virtual meeting exemplified religious integration and the communal creation of a harmonious society. Under the continuing pandemic, we can show our support and care for each other.
