Venerable Master Hsing Yun is the founder of Fo Guang Shan, one of the largest Buddhist organizations in the world. Born in Jiangsu, China in 1927, he has devoted his life to spreading Humanistic Buddhism, which emphasizes the integration of spiritual practice into daily affairs to promote peace and harmony in the world.
Despite his old age and failing eyesight, Venerable Master Hsing Yun has created a huge collection of calligraphy pieces. Holding the brush delicately yet precisely, he touches the brush onto paper and the characters flow out in a single stroke. The master smoothly moves his hand, and in one breath, the piece is complete.
With trembling hands, Venerable Master Hsing Yun executes his writing in a single movement because to lift his brush would make it difficult for him to move on to the next character. From this, Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s unique one-stroke calligraphy was born.
