Melodic chanting can constantly be heard around the temple, is found throughout all schools of Buddhism. Chanting is one of the most highly prized Buddhist art-forms, passed down by oral tradition for thousands of years, and it is now accessible in in English.
Learn how to sing praises and verses found throughout Buddhism, including "Taking Refuge" and "Dedication of Merits." While the class is held in English, and all chants will be translated into English, the melodies will be identical to those used in the regular Dharma services, so students can take what they have learned in the class and apply it in the Main Shrine during services. In addition to learning how to sing the chants, students will also have the opportunity to learn how to play the liturgical Dharma instruments that accompany the chanting. The class will also include practice days, performances, and a field trip.
