Terry Lim – A Young Malaysian Comic Artist

Award-winning comics were Master Shenhui, Master Guifeng Zongmi and Master Milarepa

People’s reading habits have been changing with the times; they no longer have the patience to read books solely with lines of text. In order to connect with the masses, it is a growing trend to use comics as a medium to depict Buddhist sutras. As such, Buddhist teachings will become simpler for the general public. This was my initial intention when I first started drawing Buddhist comics.

A few years ago, I used Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s “Biography of Sakyamuni Buddha” as a blueprint for drawing comics, the works of which were further published into a book. Following the words of the Venerable Master during the production process; I gradually entered the Buddha’s time as he taught the Dharma in the world for 49 years. I was deeply moved and sincerely hope that the “Biography of Sakyamuni Buddha: The Comic Version” will be a door in which modern people can enter to engage Buddhism and to live in a world of happiness and brightness.

The exhibition consists of selected strips from the comic book. There are another eight images of the Buddha and Bodhisattvas drawn by me with much devotion; they are my offering of great sincerity to the masses. Thank you for viewing the exhibition!
