Dear Dharma Friends,
The 2017 Ullambana Day is approaching soon. To emulate the arhat Maudgalyayana’s memorialization of his mother and promote the virtue of filial piety and repaying kindness, we will be conducting the Emperor Liang’s Repentance Service from August 20–26, and the Yoga Flaming Mouth Offering Service. Merits gained from these Dharma services will be dedicated to our ancestors and departed loved ones so that they may be reborn in the Buddha’s pure land. This is also a good opportunity to repent our own transgressions, purify our minds, and nurture our wisdom and blessings.
The annual Sangha Offering is also approaching. Following the Buddha’s teachings, we practice filial piety towards our parents and ancestors through dedicating the merits of making offerings to the Sangha. Like Maudgalyayana, we repay the Four Kinds of Gratitude and help alleviate suffering in the Three Lower Realms. In making offerings to the Triple Gem and supporting the monastery, we should not make offering for only a meal, but for the entire year; not to a small number of people, but to the whole community; and not just for the present, but for the future. In supporting the Sangha and helping them practice and spread Buddhism, we are doing very meaningful work.
In order to thank all our devotees and Dharma friends for their kind support over the years, during the entire seventh lunar month, from August 23 to September 19, we will recite the Ksitigarbha Sutra every morning and evening in the Main Shrine. In addition, Yoga Flaming Mouth Offering Services will be conducted on Sunday, July 23 and Aug 27, 2017 at 2:00 pm. All merits will be shared with the parents, ancestors, and loved ones of our devotees and patrons. You and your family are most welcome to attend the services and share in the Dharma joy. May you gain both blessings and wisdom!
