Sinking, Floating, and Awakening Sacred Buddhist Sites and Lotuses of India
Photo Exhibition of Poo Yap Cher
Poo Yap Cher is a photography instructor at the Malaysia Fo Guang Center, Dong Zen Temple, Dong Zen Institute, and Dong Zen Intermediate School. With over 20 years of photography experience, he is familiar with various genres including portrait, stage, event, still-life, and landscape photography.

To Cher, photography is not simply capturing a moment, but also a process of self-exploration. In order to step out of the restrictions from his conventional mode of thinking, Cher returned to his initial intent by incorporating his learning of Buddhism and meditation. Through photography, he aims to convey right mindfulness, allowing even more people to experience the Buddha’s teachings in daily life.

This time, Cher visited India on a 26-day journey. Along the way, he traced the Buddha's footsteps in India, and also began an internal spiritual dialogue. While documenting sacred sites, he paid special attention to the lotuses there. From whether the lotus was sinking, floating, real, or illusory, he saw reality. From the ruins of these sacred sites, he saw the Buddha’s compassion and fearless spirit in seeking awakening and sharing his wisdom. Cher hopes that the meaning of the Buddha’s teachings can be widely spread each time his works are exhibited.
