TZhang Zhixian – Lotus Photography Exhibition

Born in Sichuan Province, China, 1946, Zhang Zhixian hails from a family of generations of artists. His grandfather Zhang Daqian was one of the most renowned and prodigious Chinese painters and artists of the twentieth century. Influenced by his family legacy, Mr. Zhang Zhixian loves literature and art since childhood.

Engaging in photography since 1993, he has pursued his passion for shooting lotus-themed photos for more than twenty years. Mr. Zhang has traveled around the country to record the variety and beauty of lotus in its different stages of growth. Through observing the lotus from different angles, starting from flower buds, chalice-like multi-petal blossoms, and ripening pods, he has been able to capture every stage of the lotus and to transform the moments into eternal beauty. Although Mr. Zhang started photography in his late fifties, he has since never been able to put the camera down. Every summer, he stays by the lotus pond day and night, focusing on shooting the blossoming blooms.

Since 2005, he was elected four times as the president of the Shenzhen Institute of Photography for the Elderly. In 2011, he was honored as one of the “Top Ten Model Elders” by the Shenzhen Municipal Committee on Aging. In 2014, he was named “Shenzhen's most beautiful elder.”

The “Zhang Zhixian Lotus Photo Collection” was published by Hunan Literature and Art Publishing House in 1996 and the “Zhang Zhixian's Lotus Photograph Collection” by the People's Fine Arts Publishing House in 1999. He further published “The Lotus Pond Vision and Life's Reminiscences” in 2011 and “Lotus Photography Essays” in 2016.

Since 1998, he has held exhibitions and given lectures in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Chengdu, Macau, Thailand, Taiwan, and Australia.
