For the first time, Fo Guang Shan sounds of music were brought to Disneyland! On April 17, 2016, a group of 42 performers from Hsi Lai Temple Buddha’s Light Youth Symphony Orchestra played a total of eight songs including the “Song of Fo Guang Shan” at Disneyland. They moved the hearts of every person in the audience with their spectacular performance, and they received rounds of applause from the audience.
The Disneyland in California is the first Disney theme park in the world. Since its opening in 1955, it has attracted thousands of different ethnicity visitors from all over the world. Therefore, it is believed that if they can perform in the “Happiest Place on Earth,” they should be able to spread the seeds of Bodhisattva over the world. While the Youth Symphony Orchestra’s monastic advisor Ven. Zhi Xing started to apply for the performance at Disneyland, she had also continued to urge the Orchestra to rehearse. After a rigorous selection, finally the wishes come true. Conductor Jorge Luis Uzcategui, and the assistant conductor Daniel Paes De Barros led the Youth Symphony Orchestra to perform at Disneyland, accompanied by Ven. Hui Hao, Director of His Lai Temple.
The Youth Symphony Orchestra began playing “Song of Fo Guang Shan,” written by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, and ended the performance with “Master Ode.” The Orchestra expresses their respect and gratitude to Venerable Master Hsing Yun through those soft emotional melodies, also as a gift to celebrate Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s 90 year-old birthday.
