The Interfaith Initiative from Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles invited over 20 religious groups to a luncheon on April 5, 2016. Ven. Youheng and Patricia Liu represented Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple and BLIA Hsi Lai English Sub-Chapter at the event. The objective of Habitat for Humanity is to build homes for low-income families. Since its founding in 1991, Habitat LA has provided more than 700 homes to benefit 4,000 local residents. Through this luncheon, Habitat LA hopes to benefit more people by working together with religious organizations to get monetary and material donations, as well as manpower.
The next lucky winner for getting the next home was announced at the end of the luncheon. She is a single mother raising two talented teenagers. The announcement adds an emotional touch to the informational gathering.
Hsi Lai Temple and the English Sub-Chapter have participated in building homes with Habitat for Humanity for the past 3 years. The temple hopes to continue supporting this meaningful organization in the future.
