Giving appreciation in Thanksgiving Service

Celebrating Thanksgiving with blessing and appreciation has been a tradition in America for over 400 years. With this in mind, the Arcadia Interfaith Action Group, which was formed in 1992 to bridge various faiths within the community, held its Annual Arcadia Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service. This year’s host church was the Holy Angels Catholic Church. Ven. Man Kuang, Man Jing and Zhi Hsuan with 20 members of BLIA Arcadia Subchapter including President Ms. Li-ching Chou went to take part in this event.

To begin with the evening, The Licata Brothers from Baha’I faith dedicated a song entitled with “I Think You’re Wonderful” to all the volunteers who helping the community becoming better.

The service, under the theme “Giving Thanks for Our Community Volunteers”, allowed the Sikh, Baha’I, Muslim, Buddhism, Jewish, Christian and Catholic religions to briefly introduce their volunteer representatives and also sharing each one’s insight feedback.

Sach de Nijs, President of BLIA Hsi Lai Subchapter expressed her joy when doing her docent guiding and yoga teaching. She also thanked the opportunity of ”allowing me to understand and practice the idea of we are the one”.

Rev. Brenda Simonds also led the 7 young volunteers to the stage from each faith. Boys and girls including Jeffrey Ho who are from Hsi Lai Boy Scout said the boy scouts regard the temple as their second home where they can learn and of course want to pay back through lots of different chores. The beneficiary of this service was the Foothill Unity Center, one of the local service agencies the Arcadia Interfaith Action Group supports. At the end, Mario Cee, one volunteer of Lotus SoCal took a group photo for the religiou and volunteer representatives.

The Arcadia Interfaith Action Group holds two events during the year, the annual Thanksgiving Service and a celebration of National Prayer Day, held each year on the first Thursday in May.
