Hsi Lai Dharma School for Kids on Sunday has been up and running several weeks since March, under the leadership of Janet Petti, with lots of help from Lotus Committee, parents, and Hsi Lai devotees . 15 children come in happily on Sunday morning at 10:00 and learn Dharma songs, art drawing, stories about mindfulness and even simple meditation practice.
The lessons in May will be stories of the life of the Buddha and his teachings. The children will participate in the events commemorating Buddha's Birthday at the temple. Of course, music and meditation will always continue.
Janet said that it has been a joy to meet and teach/learn with these children. They are kind, attentive and patient. She really feels that they are benefitting from the time spent together.
To make things happen, it needs the accumulation of causes and conditions. With the intention of Janet and the support of the venerables, plus the volunteers who have given their time, talents, and loving care to make the Dharma School possible. Coming to the Temple can deepen our understanding and practice of the Dharma. Participating in the Dharma School for Kids is another opportunity to do just that. Parents are encouraged to step in Classroom 3 on Sunday between 9:45 and 12:30 and you will find that what you see will bring a smile to your heart.
Finally, Janet would like to send a big "Thank You" to the parents who entrust us with their children each Sunday.
