2015 Hsi Lai Temple Spring Camp utilized clay as the main theme of this year. Nineteen students learned how to make piggy banks from clay under the teacher’s guidance at Clay Ceramics Studio in Long Beach.
The instructor demonstrated techniques of hand-building with the fresh clay. Students were inspired and felt hand-building was like magic, using their creativity to construct their artwork, scrutinizing their work carefully to prevent cracks or breakage during firing.
This activity also taught students the importance of saving money. At the end of the day, students toured the kilns used for firing their clay piggy banks.
