Hsi Lai Temple held the first session of its new Meditative Calligraphy Class in the Meeting Room, inviting Instructor Jiabi Huang to serve as its director.
Almost 50 people registered and attended the class.
Instructor Huang helped the new calligraphers to develop the correct attitude towards writing and discussed why people still use the “Four Treasures” of paper, brush, ink, and ink stone.
Instructor Huang led the new calligraphers in meditation practice, using the the first point of the eight strokes needed to write the character for “forever” to help the students establish the inner strength of tranquility.
Instructor Huang introduced the correct seating posture and how to hold the brush properly.
Instructor Huang hopes that the new students will be able to understand the necessary adjustments needed to write calligraphy, where to put the seal, how to make ink, and more importantly, the correct attitude.
