Pre-Tour Concert by BLYSO
August 14, 2016

In celebration of FGS’s 50th anniversary and Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s 90th birthday, Buddha’s Light Youth Symphony Orchestra flew to Taiwan for a concert tour between August 20-27. On August 14, the Searching for Our Roots Pre-Tour Concert was held in the temple auditorium with many coming out to show their support for the 40 plus musicians. Buddha’s Light Youth Symphony Orchestra (BLYSO) was established in 1993 in accord with Venerable Master’s ideal of “to liberate beings in the ten directions through chanting and to form affinities with the ten directions through music,” in hopes that through music, the differences of language, nationality, and ethnicity can be overcome and to achieve an exchange between Eastern Buddhist music and Western culture. The conductor for this tour is Jorge Luis Uzcategui. Student musicians play the cello, viola, violin, oboe, French horn, flute and also percussion instruments. Aside from western pieces, the orchestra will also preform Buddhist works such as Song of FGS, Master’s Song, and Song of the Dharma Propagator.
