August 14, 2016

College sports season kicks off with a story on California Polytechnic University Pomona team's trip to the sixth annual BLIA Cup University Basketball Tournament in Taiwan. The invitation to attend was made by Hsi Lai Temple of Los Angeles. Before leaving the US, Venerable Mankuang shared photos of Master Hsing Yun playing basketball with the team.

This year's venue was held at the Kaohsiung Arena, sponsored by the City of Kaohsiung. Organizers wished the players to give their best while having fun. For the Broncos, it was their first time participating in an international competition with hopes of experiencing new cultures and befriending fellow players from around the world.

The visiting athletes was composed of six incoming freshmen, who trained for ten days before the event. Coach Greg Kamansky prepared the new players for the upcoming season.

Hosting the exchange, Fo Guang Shan monastery in Kaohsiung provided the jet-lagged visitors with accommodations, dining and transportation, allowing them to sample local food and culture. Aside from the support of Fo Guang Shan, various other Taiwanese donors and agencies contributed to the exposition game to promote international athleticism and sportsmanship.
