Teenage Faith
May 5, 2016

On May 5th, Santa Anita Church hosted a community dialogue on “Fearless Faith”. Seven teenagers from different religious backgrounds took to the stage to describe their individual experiences. Among the youth speakers was Emily Chen, representing Hsi Lai Temple. She explained, “I always recite Amitabha Buddha’s name whenever I feel stressed while playing the piano, because the chanting helps me to calm down and to focus better.”

Buddha’s Light Drum Band and three members of Buddha Light’s Youth Symphony Orchestra were also invited to perform before the audience. The host Reverend Terry Keenan praised the show, “Wow, it is so inspiring.” Hsi Lai Temple Director Ven. Man Kuang and Ven. Miao Yue concluded with a prayer and dedication of merit.

The event was not only attended by local residents, but included the Mayor of Arcadia, along with neighborhood firefighters and police. Joining the crowd of eighty attendees were BLIA members from the Alhambra and Monterey Park Subchapters, led by its chapter president.

In his closing remarks, Catholic priest Monseigneur Lopez expressed his gratitude to all the teenagers, saying “Youth is the best gift from God. We see the hope from our next generation.”
