“Bag of Blood - Save a Life” Blood Drive at Hsi Lai Temple
March 20, 2016

Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple and the American Red Cross jointly hosted the Blood Drive on March 20, 2016 at the Harmony Hall. Every year this event is held at Hsi Lai Temple in March, June, and September.

During the event, the American Red Cross provided all blood equipment and nurses, who worked for six hours, managing the flesh blood donation process. Donated blood is used to help people in the Los Angeles area.

Not everyone is eligible to donate blood. To ensure the safety of both the donors and recipients, the American Red Cross must evaluate all volunteer donors to determine their eligibility to give blood. Tests conducted include checking the body temperature and the hemoglobin level in a sample of blood. After the evaluations, the donor then lay in bed to draw 500cc of blood.

Participants of the Hsi Lai Cultivation Program fully supported this “Bag of Blood - Save a Life” event and all donated blood on that day, hoping to benefit the society with this small gesture of generosity.
