Winter Love Joy Scholarships
November 21, 2015

The 2015 Winter Love Joy Scholarship program was held on November 21 this year, hosted in the Main Shrine by the Temple along with BLIA Los Angeles Chapter. More than $30,000 charitable dollars were donated to 160 Hacienda La Puente School District families and City of Industry police and firefighters. Dignitaries such as Director-General Steve Hsia of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Representative Ed Royce, Sheriff Jim McDonnell, Superintendent Cynthia Parulan-Colfer, Hacienda La Puente School District Board of Directors Vice President Penny Fraumeni and member, Gino Kwok, were in attendance.

Venerable Abbot expressed that following the vision “To nurture talent through education. To benefit society through charity;” of FGS Founder, Venerable Master Hsing Yun, we would like to show our gratitude for the last 26 years of support shown to us, allowing many students and their families to come to know the concern of the Chinese community.

BLIA Chapter President, Jerry Chen, said that the Winter Love Joy Program has granted scholarships for the last 11 years, working with the local school district to facilitate a smooth function. The service began with the National Anthem in a cappella by Simran Thakur, followed by scholarship presentations and was highlighted with a magic show. This year, 160 families from 32 schools received scholarship funds and school supplies. After the service, many families toured the temple grounds with our docents and even had a box lunch in the courtyard.
