Guibord Center Council Meeting
November 4, 2015

Rev. Dr. Gwynne Guibord founded the Guibord Center four years ago in order to discover religion from new perspectives, offering insights on many faith traditions practiced by different people and to bring people together to challenge assumptions, unleash the Holy and affirm the faith that transforms the world. Under her invitation, Hsi Lai Temple, along with 44 other religious organizations joined together as advisory council members. November 4, at St. John’s Cathedral, 28 members from 7 religions, held the board of directors and advisory council meeting. After a few words from Dr. Guibord as a short welcome, directors and advisors each took turns sharing their recent experience of cultivation in their daily lives. Some of them expressed health issues, some witnessed the violence around the country while one of the advisors appreciated the peace and calmness even in chaotic Uganda. Ven. Mankuang raised the question brought up by a Layola High School student – “Can religion bring more peace to this world while there is a lot of violence and war going on?” and asked all the members to contemplate on compassion for one minute.

To celebrate its 125th year, St. John’s invited the advisors to attend and participate by gifting the Cathedral a prayer book from their own faith tradition and receiving a Book of Common Prayer in turn on February 6, 2016.
