October 3, 2015

On Saturday, Oct. 3 the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District (HLPUSD) held Open House Fair to distribute back-to-school and everyday household items to families in need. Over 50 tents full of goods, donated by neighboring towns and local organizations, were set up at the community center.

At 9:30 a.m. at Hsi Lai Temple's booth, Venerable Man Kuang, director of the Hsi Lai Outreach department, Venerable Man Deng and Stella Wu began to distribute non-slippery sneakers to youths. In less than three hours all 300 pairs of shoes were given away and benefited approximately 200 families. All the young recipients were in delight and expressed their gratitude in having a brand new pair of shoes to wear for the remainder of the school year.

Students from HLPUSD performed throughout the event which included dancing, singing and demonstration of musical instruments.

The sneakers were donated by Buddhist Light International Association members . Volunteers from Rowland Heights Subchapter were happy to lend a hand when there is dire need, following one of Venerable Master Hsin Yun guidelines to help improve society.
