Interfaith Dialogue for Decoding the Ritual and symbols of Buddhism
June 27, 2015

Organized by Guibord Center, on June 27, 2015, around 80 people from different spiritual faiths participated in an conference on Interfaith Dialogue held in Hsi Lai Temple. The group was led by Dr. Lois M. Sprague, Vice-President of Guibord Center from Los Angeles. Participants were first received in the Main Shrine by Venerable Man Kuang and a meal offering demonstration was performed by Venerable Ru Yuan. Venerable Man Kuang told the story of shakyamuni Buddha, Medicine Buddha and Amitabha Buddha and explained in detail the functions of the Main Shrine and the meanings behind them.

Participants were then given a talk by Venerable Abbot Hui Dong in the Conference room on the topic of "decoding Buddhism". The Abbot explained that learning Buddhism is learning about one's mind and how to liberate it. One needs to inquire into one's mind and understand ways to release suffering by subduing ignorance, discriminative thoughts and attachments. The Abbot shared his wisdom on how to train and decode one's mind by practicing meditation. He also advised that the path to liberation must be guided with skillful means. The conference ended with a Q and A session and a delicious vegetarian lunch was served in the dinning hall.
