Do not take affliction to bed.
Do not take hatred into tomorrow.
Do not spread worries to others.
Do not take anger to your heart.

THE DAILY PRACTICE OF CHAN
English translation: Zhi Yue

1. The Philosophy of Chan:
To have an indiscriminating and ordinary mind that is cultivated in the routine of daily life.

2. The Essence of Chan:
A mind of faith, practice, and compassion that is always striving for the better. It is unchanging, yet adapts to circumstances; it is compassion, kindness, joy, and equanimity.

3. The Daily Practice of Chan:
Diligently practice with discipline, and live with simplicity and gratitude. Abide by the precepts and be content.

4. The Spirit of Chan:
Assume responsibilities, have no fear, and be diligent. Carry out duties with faith in one’s own Buddha nature.

5. The Application of Chan:
To skillfully apply it in a lively, interesting and vigorous way, so that everything in life is the Way, full of taste.
