by Ancient Verse from Nanhai, Mt. Potalaka
English translation: Zhi Yue

The wonder of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva is inexpressible,
Having purity and majesty resulting from many kalpas of cultivation.
Her thirty-two manifestations appear everywhere in this world,
Liberating sentient beings for innumerable eons.
Always sprinkling sweet dew out from her vase,
With a willow in her hand, through countless autumns.
Prayers from a thousand places said, in a thousand ways she responds,
In the ocean of suffering, she is the everlasting ferry that liberates all.

Homage to the great compassionate and merciful liberator of suffering
who responds to all, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva!

English translation: Zhi Yue

Fingertips gently waving the willow branch,
the dews of a kind vow sprinkling upon the world;
Sprinkling crystal translucent waters,
Undaunted by the infernos of hell;

The blaze of the scorching fire
cannot vaporize the compassion of Dharma water;
Flames transformed into a pond of red lotuses,
Smoke turned to refreshing mist;

It is my promise,
the determination to answer a thousand prayers,
by responding through a thousand hearts.

Gentle but powerful,
always enduring,
It is my promise.
