On September 21, 1999 at 1:47AM, a killer
earthquake shook Taiwan, devastated the lives and homes of the Taiwanese
people. So far, it has
taken 2,104 lives, injured 8,713 people and toppled 6,987 buildings.
Since the massive quake violently jolted the island one week ago,
both the American and Chinese media have provided detailed reports of
the damages left by the 7.6 earthquake.
Hsi Lai Temple and Buddhas Light International Association are
utmost grateful for their coverage.
Since southern California is home to a great number of Taiwanese
immigrants, relief efforts have been organized immediately after the
news of the earthquake reached United States.
In order to draw more support from the public for the earthquake
victims, local broadcasting stations and newspaper agencies have been on
top of every effort and fundraising activity.
Their tireless coverage has resulted in massive donations from
all walks of life, regardless of age, sex and ethnicity.
On behalf of the Taiwanese people, Hsi Lai Temple and Buddhas
Light International Association sincerely salute the following media
members for their dedication and concern in helping the island to cope
with and recover from the deadly earthquake: |
