Songs of Compassion Charity Dinner

MISSION STATEMENT

The ˇ§Songs of Compassion Charity Dinnerˇ¨ was first conceived in February in accordance with Venerable Master Hsing Yun's promotion for the protection of life and nature.  It is the first fundraising dinner by Hsi Lai Temple in its eleven years of existence in Los Angeles.  The event was originally planned to raise money for programs that look after the welfare of our children who have suffered either physical abuses or terminal illness.  However, as Taiwan was shook by a violent earthquake on September 21, 1999, event organizers decided to expand its fundraising effort to include the victims of the killer quake.  The objectives of the charity dinner are thus amended to accomplish the following:
1. To awaken our societyˇ¦s appreciation of life,
2. To heighten the publicˇ¦s awareness of the abuses suffered by our children
3. To raise funds for children who have lost their innocence or are physically impaired, so that they may overcome their tragedies for a brighter future,
 4. To raise money for the Taiwanese people, so that they may rebuild their lives and homes.
