Rendering the Buddha Universe Humanistic Buddhism as taught by Sakyamuni Buddha and propagated by Hsi Lai Temple emphasizes a universal concern for all beings in all worlds past, present and future. However, humanistic Buddhism places particular concern on the universal welfare of all beings in this present world with particular concern for human beings, who are at the heart of the tradition’s concern. Humanistic Buddhism does not negate the immediate reality of human existence as less than an Absolute or Ultimate reality. It affirms that there is no need to escape this human world to be reborn in an Ultimate separate reality i.e. Heaven, Nirvana, the Pureland in order to share in and become one with the Ideal and Perfect reality. Humanistic Buddhism affirms that the immediate reality of human existence and the Ultimate existence are not separate, they are one: this human world is Nirvana, this human world is the Pureland. We are liberated inconceivably as we whole-heartedly engage in helping other living beings with wisdom, compassion, love, kindness and understanding. Through such activity, we touch, we become whom we with all sentient beings have always been, Buddha. In such an awakening, we see everyday life in all directions as not other than Nirvana, not other than the Pureland. Rendering the Buddha Universe in chalk event on Sunday, Apr. 29, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. will be the first event in a week long celebration culminating in the celebration of Buddha birthday on Sunday, May 6. The Buddha universe that we will depict in chalk on the temple court yard, will be an artistic rendering of the always-present ultimate and sacred reality in everyday life. Every Buddhist practice enables the practitioner to transform her/his awareness to manifest the awareness of this reality in their body, speech and mind for their benefit and for the benefit of all sentient beings. Rendering the Buddha universe of great peace, tolerance, love, compassion and kindness in art helps to transform the perceptions, thoughts, actions of the renderer and the observer of the event as well as all beings to whom we will offer this artist rendering as a prayer of blessing and well-being. This event will be of particular importance as an offering and blessing of peace, compassion and understanding in light of the on going armed struggle in Kosovo and the student killings in Littleton, Colorado. The public is openly invited to participate in this chalk-rendering event of the Buddha universe. One can make a donation of any amount (see the reverse side for the registration form) to sponsor one of the squares in the temple courtyard. Then, with the colored chalk provided by the temple, one can chalk their image and or prayer/wish for peace, or love, tolerance, kindness that embraces all beings around the world. At the end of the day, we will send out into the world the collective intentions of our hearts as imaged in the rendering to help all beings experience and manifest these ever ever-present qualities of the rendering in their daily life. ¦^¤W¶BackžTŒÝŒÝŒ×Œ×ŒÝŒÝŒÝŒÝŒÝŒ×ŒÝ |
